I'm Venezuelan. My people have left in droves. Fleeing an authoritarian autocratic regime which trump is carbon copying by the second. First, there was a brain bleed. Mostly oil engineers and professionals of our once famed PDVSA (The third ranked in the world & now plummeted to 147, last time I checked) whom Chavez fired over National TV one by one blowing a whistle after each name. Apprentice-like. These professionals were immediately gobbled up by National Oil Companies around the planet far & wide. Then MD's, and other PhD's followed by mid tier professions, followed by high class Venezuelans who had Foreign accounts and vacation homes around the planet, followed by Middle class people who couldn't make ends meet and were hounded by the gangs of malandros and paramilitary kidnappings vampirizing whatever little money they earned, started walking as far as your map can show in all directions, some through the hellish Darien Gap to the Southern Mexican border, others left their soles & souls walking over the spine of the Andes sometimes staying in different countries along the way to Patagonia? Followed by working class people who were lining up for garbage trucks to scavenge for leftovers for one "meal" a day... these desperate refugees are " the criminals" the Convicted Felon, the Vampire Miller and his Homan minion and the PuppyKiller have used as "poster gangs criminals" of the mythical "Tren de Aragua" Gang. A Gang that started in the putrid bowels of the hellish Venezuelan Prison System. And extended its operations across the country and our borders. Maybe 3000 at most across the continent. 250 at best in USA.
But NEVER has any Criminal Gang been as stupid, idiotic, and populous as allegedly this one, used -as an excuse by this regime -to deport illegal immigrants without due process is: 650.000 Venezuelans under TPS are the immigration minority with the highest percentage of higher education/professionals who have all gone thru their process of obtaining legal status. Left fingerprints, documents, photographs, registered children in schools, opened businesses etc. I have never seen such blatant stupidity in 650.000 ( the population of Suriname) alleged gang members, whom before used to hide in alleys and have plastic surgery to change their faces, use wigs & hide à la Pablo Escobar o any Mafia boss.
These fellow citizens have gone through hell in Venezuela, and like many refugees before us, they have escaped hunger, crime and deplorable circumstances.
Now? 179 of them are rotting in Bukele's concentration camp of el CECOT. Including a soccer player tortured by the Maduro regime and chained and trussed and condemned because of a Real Madrid tattoo on his arm.
For which Bukele in his Simon Bolívar-like velvet costume pockets have been lined with Millions of USD paid by our tax dollars. Auschwitz wasn't in Germany either...

The idea that the average Venezuelan loses 24 pounds year is staggering. Particularly given that the average American (and remember averages sometimes gloss over some startling statistics of the extremes of different sub groups) gains 15 pounds a year according to CBS News.
Well, honestly? We suppressed ourselves really. We didn't really need much help from "the gringos".
Voting for Chavez was a given, many disillusioned by the two party binary social democrats/social christians oligarchs who forgot the poor and working class people ( the majority) made it easy, when a silver tongued military comandante--who looked and expressed himself just like them-- with a lot of charisma appeared dressed in a liqui liqui ( national Venezuelan men's garb) and said what the disenfranchised wanted to hear: "... And We're going to fry the ruling party's head in oil at the Baseball Stadium" it was a given, really...
